How to make a reservation?

Call our office to make a reservation at 902 529-0465 or via email at info@horseexpress.org

Print out a copy of our Shipping Agreement. After filling it out, either fax or mail the signed form to us with a 50% deposit for the reservation.

Your quote is valid for the trip you have required.

What are the terms and conditions?

When making a reservation, a 50% deposit is due upon reservation. The remainder is to be paid either at the pickup or drop off of your horse. We accept cash, money orders, certified checks, online banking email transfer and credit cards; however, a 3% fee will be charged for using a credit card.

The fee you are given is for door-to-door delivery and care of you horse according to the instructions given on the Shipping Agreement; surcharges may apply for the following reasons:

Change of location for either pickup or delivery.

Difficult access roads not previously discussed when quote was issued.

Delays in loading a horse due to horse not being ready for pickup, contact person unavailable or paperwork not ready for departure, will result in a charge of $50.00 per hour after the first waiting hour.

Veterinary bills resulting from the need for treatment while en route.

Tack charges start at $25.00 for a saddle or small tack trunk and can go up to $100.00 plus dollars for very large or heavy trunks, tack or as agreed upon. If tack is not pre-scheduled when quote was made, arrangements have to be made prior of departure if space is available.

If a cancellation is needed, you must cancel five days prior to scheduled pickup to receive a full refund of your deposit.

If cancellation occurs less than five days or 120 hours, but more than 24 hours from scheduled pickup, a $50.00 cancellation fee will be charged.

If cancellation occurs within  24 hours of the scheduled pickup, your 50% deposit is non-refundable.

What about travel insurance for my horse?

Horse Express cannot insure your horse for injury or mortality, since we are not the horse's owner and we can not provide an individual insurance policy with appraised value for each horse. However, if you wish to obtain equine insurance prior to shipping for coverage including injury, we suggest contacting our insurance company Bluenose Insurance directly to make arrangements (Contact person Glenda at 902 562-1988) or your own insurance agent.

What is needed to get my horse ready?

Veterinary Care:

We recommend that all immunizations are up-to-date, but law does not require it. Young horses may be more susceptible to infections. All vaccinations should be given no later than two weeks before the trip (in case a horse has a negative reaction to the vaccination, the two weeks allow time for the horse to recuperate and the vaccination to take effect).

We recommend not trimming horses hooves before shipping. Make sure horses are well hydrated before shipping.

We further recommend that you do not use leg wraps that may unravel or may be wrapped too tight, nor do we recommend tail wraps (tail bags pose no problem).

Special instructions for my horse?

If you have special instructions for you horse, please let us know when booking the reservation. We are happy to accommodate almost all requests. We do ask that you put all instructions in writing with your signature, so we can do exactly what is required.

If an emergency should arise as outlined in our Shipping Agreement, we have the authority to take your horse to a veterinarian at your expense.

Communication and General Information?

We will be in contact with you the week before the pickup and the day of pickup. We will also be in contact the day before the pick-up and a few hours before drop off to make certain the appropriate person is there and available when we pick-up or drop off your horse(s).

Hay is placed in hay nets throughout the trip and water will be provided to the horses every 4 hours. We take small breaks approximately every 4 hours to check on each horse and allow him or her to relax. After checking each horse and while taking these breaks, we may also be re-fueling, take food breaks, load and unload other horses and take rest periods as required by law.

Our traveling day is up to 13 hours per day, which includes loading and unloading. We also do a daily inspection on the truck and trailer and add clean shavings when needed.

We will use the most direct routes for each location, but please be aware that a tractor trailer cannot deliver in the same timeframe it would take you to drive yourself. There are factors that are beyond our influence, like weather, traffic, road conditions, waiting time delays at pickup and delivery locations and last but not least, we travel much slower than you would with an average car. Our average speed is in between 80 km and 100 km per hour, where permitted.
